The Scottish Bible Society is a fully independent charity and a founder member of the United Bible Societies (UBS). The organisation was established in 1809 as the Edinburgh Bible Society, before a re-branding exercise took place in 1999, when the organisation was renamed as Scottish Bible Society.

The Scottish Bible Society works with all Christian denominations in Scotland and worldwide, providing Bibles, New Testaments, Gospels and Scripture leaflets as well as resource materials to congregations, schools, retail outlets, mail-order customers, prisons, hospitals and other Christian organisations.

the original system

Scottish Bible Society originally used AppealMaster. In July 2002 they began a six month review of the systems on the market. Scottish Bible Society wanted more functionality within an easy to use system, which could be tailored to suit their specific needs. Using an independent consultant, they assessed the suppliers that were most able to match their needs.

the new system

Scottish Bible Society now uses the standard thankQ system (which includes contacts and relationships, mail, finance, fundraising, events, grants, action manager, system administration and data tools), with a few bespoke modifications to the standard functionality. They have found that thankQ offers more functionality than their previous system, providing powerful reporting and searching features.

Scottish Bible Society’s Colin Hay was responsible for overseeing the changeover of systems. He explained: “thankQ’s Power Search capability is very useful and has helped us to gain a more detailed insight into our donors and supporters than ever before. We like the way thankQ thinks”. He also remarked that they are able to use more of the new system, due to the configuration and inclusion only of the modules that they need.

Scottish Bible Society uses thankQ for all of their direct mail appeals, for the input of donations, and for the management of all tasks relating to its donor database.

thankQ also enables Scottish Bible Society to report out financial information, which they use to track their project totals and check them against the details within their accounting package.
